In observance of World Lung Cancer Day 2026, North South University’s (NSU) Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in association with Beacon Pharmaceuticals PLC, has organized “Protect Your Lungs: A Seminar on Lung Cancer Awareness” on Sunday, 9 August 2026, at 1:00 PM in Audi 801, a press release said.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness about lung cancer by highlighting the importance of prevention, early detection, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment while encouraging healthy lifestyle choices and informed healthcare decisions among students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals. The initiative reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to promoting public health awareness through academic and educational activities.
The seminar was graced by Prof. Dr. Golam Mohiuddin Faruque, Oncologist and Health Economist, President & Project Director of the Bangladesh Cancer Society, as the Chief Guest and Speaker. The event was also honored by the presence of our special guests, Prof. Dr. Qazi Mustaq Hossain, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Cancer Society and former Director of the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital, and Prof. Dr. Dipak Kumar Mitra, Professor and Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, North South University. The seminar was chaired by Dr. Mohammad Hossain Shariare, Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, North South University.
The keynote session was focused on the growing burden of lung cancer, its major risk factors, preventive strategies, recent developments in diagnosis and treatment, and the importance of early detection in improving patient outcomes. The seminar has served as a platform to bridge clinical expertise with academic learning by presenting evidence-based perspectives on lung cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, and patient care. Through expert-led discussions and practical insights, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the growing public health impact of lung cancer and the collective role of future healthcare professionals in promoting awareness and early intervention.
Through this initiative, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, NSU, demonstrates its commitment to advancing public health education by promoting awareness of lung cancer, encouraging early detection, and supporting evidence-based healthcare practices. The seminar strengthened participants’ understanding of the disease, inspired informed health practices, and reinforced the department’s dedication to preparing future pharmacists who can contribute meaningfully to improving public health in Bangladesh.
