Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman will go to Russia on a three-day state visit tomorrow, Sunday (June 6). Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir will accompany him, a press release said.
This is Dr. Khalilur Rahman’s first state visit abroad after being elected President of the UN General Assembly. Various bilateral issues, including the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly, may be discussed during the visit.
According to diplomatic sources, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will participate in a bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the second day of his visit to Moscow. In addition, he will meet several important representatives of the Russian government.
According to sources, the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of Bangladesh, is currently an important topic of cooperation between the two countries. Apart from this, there is overall cooperation between the two countries in the areas of energy and economy, and trade expansion. Addressing the challenges posed by sanctions following the Ukraine war is particularly important for both countries. These issues will be of particular importance in the bilateral meeting to be held next Monday. The two countries cooperate on various issues such as sustainable development and UN reform as part of coordination in UN and multilateral diplomacy. These issues are expected to come up for discussion as Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has been elected as the President of the UN General Assembly.
