Police have arrested a man named Md. Jasim Uddin Prakash ‘Twenty Jasim’ (40) with 147 Yaba tablets in Karnaphuli, Chattogram. Police claim that Jasim voluntarily admitted during interrogation that he got involved in the drug trade to cover the expenses of the case against him.

He was arrested on Sunday (August 23) at around 11:30 am from the paved road in front of Su-Gate-1, on the left side of the south gate of the Korean EPZ in Bairag Union of Karnaphuli Upazila.

A police team led by SI Noor-e-Alam Siddique, in-charge of the port police outpost of Karnaphuli Police Station, conducted a raid in the area based on a secret tip-off while conducting a special operation. Police said that Jasim tried to run away after sensing their presence. Later, police members arrested him.

The statement said that after being arrested, Jasim confessed during interrogation that he had Yaba in his custody. Later, a legal search was conducted in front of witnesses present at the scene and 147 Yaba pills kept in a blue airtight polypack were recovered from the bundle of lungis he was wearing.

The weight of the recovered Yaba pills was 14 grams. The approximate value of these Yaba pills is mentioned in the statement as 44,100 taka.

Police claim that at one stage of interrogation, Jasim voluntarily admitted that he had been dealing drugs to finance the various cases against him. He further said that he used to buy Yaba pills from the absconding Md. Abshar at a low price and sell them in different areas of Chattogram district.

Citing the statement and the police’s CDMS verification, it was learned that there are a total of 12 cases against Jasim in Karnaphuli, Patiya and Anwara police stations on various charges including robbery, weapons, theft, explosives, kidnapping and drugs.

Among the cases filed at Karnaphuli Police Station from 2013 to 2025, there are cases of preparation for robbery, Arms Act, theft, riot, obstruction of government work, Explosive Substances Act, kidnapping and Narcotics Control Act.

In addition, the complaint mentions that there are cases of robbery against him at Patiya and Anwara Police Stations. According to the police, Jasim and his associates committed an offense under Section 10(a)/41 of Table 36(1) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 by illegally possessing amphetamine-containing Yaba tablets for the purpose of selling them.

A case has been filed at Karnaphuli Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act in this incident. The process of sending the arrested Jasim to court is underway, said CMP Karnaphuli Police Station OC Md. Ikhtiaruddin.
