H.E. Yeo Han-koo, Minister for Trade of the Republic of Korea, met Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Yunus Centre in Dhaka on Monday, a press release said.
During the meeting, Professor Muhammad Yunus spoke about his longstanding engagement with South Korea and thanked the Minister for the country’s continued economic co-operation with Bangladesh.
Yeo Han-koo said he had visited the port city of Chattogram more than ten times during his previous role at an international financial organisation. He commended Professor Yunus for pioneering Grameen and microcredit and for his enduring global legacy.
Professor Yunus encouraged the Minister to promote social business as a way to address the growing concentration of wealth. He also shared his vision of the “Three Zeros” movement.
He also highlighted the Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) network, which now spans 116 universities and institutions in 40 countries worldwide, as well as the 3 Zero Clubs movement, which engages young people in advancing the goals of zero net carbon emissions, zero unemployment, and zero wealth concentration.
Professor Yunus encouraged greater Korean investment in Bangladesh.
Also present at the meeting were Lamiya Morshed, Executive Director of the Yunus Centre; Yoon Young Bum, Senior Deputy Director; Kim Hae Jung, Counsellor; and Suk Jihye, Assistant Director.
