The recent spell of heavy rain is expected to ease gradually from Tuesday, although rainfall is not likely to stop completely, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Meteorologists said the amount of rain is expected to decrease in several parts of the country, particularly in the Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Dhaka divisions. However, light to moderate showers are still likely in many areas over the coming days.
The weather office has also warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in six divisions during the next 24 hours as the country continues to experience the effects of the active monsoon.
Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick said the intensity of rain may begin to decline from Tuesday in Khulna Division and later in Sylhet. Rainfall is also expected to lessen in parts of Dhaka Division, including Madaripur and Faridpur, as well as in Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
He said the expected decrease in rainfall does not mean the rain will stop entirely.
"The amount of heavy rain will reduce, but occasional showers are likely to continue," he said.
The capital also experienced widespread rainfall over the past two days. A total of 110 millimetres of rain was recorded in Dhaka during the 27-hour period from 6:00am on Sunday to 9:00am on Monday.
Weather officials said Dhaka may see shorter periods of rain from Tuesday, with brief spells of sunshine also possible. Similar weather is expected to continue until Friday.
However, meteorologists warned that monsoon activity could strengthen again from Thursday, increasing the chances of heavier rainfall in different parts of the country later in the week.
