The police have solved the mystery of a theft incident at a house in the Bishwa Colony area of Akbarshah Police Station in Chittagong City. Two people have been arrested in this incident. Based on the information provided by them, about 10 bhori worth of stolen gold ornaments have been recovered.
The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said that a theft incident took place at the house of a woman named Urmila Akhter (Urmi) in K-Block of Bishwa Colony between 5:45 pm and 6:55 pm on July 20. During this time, three necklaces, three chains, a bracelet, two bangles, six pairs of earrings, eight rings, about 12 bhori worth of gold ornaments and 4,000 taka in cash were stolen from the house.
A case was filed under sections 454/380/34 of the Penal Code at Akbarshah Police Station on July 24 in this incident.
Based on CCTV footage from the scene of the case and confidential information, the police arrested two people named Mahe Alam (30) and Monir Hossain (28) in a raid in the Nesaria Madrasa Goli area of Pahartali Police Station on Monday.
Police said that during initial interrogation, the arrested people confessed to their involvement in the theft. According to the information provided by them, three necklaces, three chains, two bangles, three pairs of earrings and two rings, including about 10 tons of gold ornaments, were recovered from various places during raids.
CMP said that the process of handing over the recovered gold ornaments to the rightful owner after completing the legal process is underway. At the same time, the operation is continuing to recover the remaining stolen goods and identify and arrest others involved in the incident.
According to police information, there are a total of 12 cases related to theft and drugs against the arrested Mahe Alam.
