The Board of Directors of Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has elected unanimously Anis Ahmed as the Chairman of the Bank, effective Monday,27th July 2026. Prior to his election as chairman, Ahmed served as a member of the Board’s Executive Committee (EC) and earlier, as the chairman of the Risk Management Committee (RMC) of the bank, a press release said.

Ahmed is the Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of MGH Group, a Singapore-headquartered multinational conglomerate operating across 26 countries with a diverse global portfolio encompassing supply chain solutions for major Fast Fashion, E-Commerce,  Automotive, and Electronics brands, Private container terminals, first Bangladesh, and Foreign JV Airlines to be launched in 2026, Distributorship of Airlines Global Distribution Systems, logistics, food and beverage retail, and financial services.

Founder of Bootstrapped Startups Obhai, Ride-sharing Platform, Waadaa. Insure (Insuretech), Jatra , An Accommodation Aggregation platform, Ahmed has actively supported over the last decade Bangladeshi innovation and technology-driven enterprises.

According to Ahmed, “Today EBL entered a new era of banking where the board will actively facilitate ascension of Women-led senior leaderships, Digital transformations to become a daily Life style brand of our customers built on EBL’s rock solid financial strengths”.

Ahmed’s gratitude to July Revolutions resulted into extending immediate supports to 268 July Freedom Fighters by Suhana, and Anis Ahmed Foundation (SAAF). SAAF’s signature preventative healthcare programs for the under privileged meritorious students reached to 10,000 in 2025, 31-bed Children’s Haematology ward at Bangladesh Medical University (formerly PG Hospital) has significantly reduced mortality, and increased complete remissions.

Ahmed’s extensive international business experience and strategic leadership are expected to further strengthen EBL’s position as one of Bangladesh, and South Asia’s leading financial institutions and accelerate its long-term value creation for customers, shareholders and the communities it serves.
