The Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB) has seized 270 bottles of Indian drug Eskuf syrup, used as an alternative to Phensedyl, in two separate anti-drug operations at the Shibganj border in Chapainawabganj.
According to BGB sources, the two operations were conducted on the night of July 6 based on secret information as part of the ongoing anti-smuggling and anti-drug operations in the border area.
In the first operation, a special patrol team of the Sonamasjid BOP conducted a raid on a paved road in Gopalpur village of Shahabajpur union of Shibganj upazila, about three kilometers inside Bangladesh from border pillar 185/13-S, and recovered 200 ownerless bottles of Indian Eskuf syrup.
On the same night, another patrol team of the Chowka BOP conducted a raid in Raghabbati village of Manaksha union in Shibganj upazila, about 400 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 175/2-S, and seized another 70 bottles of Eskuf syrup. However, no one was arrested in either raid.
The BGB said that the Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB) has arrested 10 people in various operations conducted in the border area in the last three months and seized a total of 11,244 bottles of intoxicating syrups of various types of Phensedyl substitutes.
Confirming the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, SGP, BFM, PSC, Commander of Mahananda Battalion, said, "BGB is working by following a zero tolerance policy to protect the youth and future generations of the country from the menace of drugs. Such operations will continue in the future to prevent drugs and smuggling at the border."
