On the occasion of the unveiling of the book cover of ‘Sufi Psychology’ written by the country’s prominent Sufi thinker, researcher and writer Khwaja Osman Faruqi, a roundtable discussion titled “Sufi Philosophy, Contemporary and Social Thought Perspective: A Era of Khwaja Osman Faruqi’s Thought, Philosophy and Work” was held at the Sultan Ahmed Auditorium of the Chittagong Press Club on Saturday.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdus Sabur Khan, Professor of the Persian Language and Literature Department of Dhaka University. Dr. Mohammad Sheikh Sadi, Professor of the Bangla Department of Chittagong University, spoke as the main discussant. In his speech, he said that Khwaja Osman Faruqi’s thoughts and literary works are not limited to the spiritual world; rather, they open the door to new thinking in the context of various crises, society and civilization. He hoped that the book ‘Sufi Psychology’ would make an important contribution to self-realization, mental balance and human development.
The special guest was Maulana Muhammad Muinuddin Nuri Al Quraishi, Sajjadanshin of Chittagong Oskhainiri Nooriya Bishu Darbar Sharif.
Professor Mohammad Alam Chowdhury, Department of Political Science, Chittagong University, Professor Dr. Md. Noor Alam, Department of Persian Language and Literature, Professor Dr. Mohammad Morshedul Alam, Department of Psychology, CU, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinur Rahman, Associate Professor Mohammad Ishaq, Department of Political Science, CU, spoke as guest of honors.
The keynote speaker was National Civil Rights and Election Analyst and Executive Editor of Daily Capital Views, SM Abul Barkat Akash. In his speech, he said that the book ‘Sufi Psychology’ has created an important bridge between modern psychology and Islamic spiritual tradition. Through which the new generation, including the new generation, will further increase their devotion to spirituality. He urged to go beyond all kinds of differences and embrace the principles of Sufism.
Other guests who spoke at the event were Professor Mohammad Mojahedul Islam Chowdhury, Principal of Chittagong College, Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, City College, Pirzada Sheikh Abu Muhammad Saifullah Faruqi, Nayebe Sajjadanshin, Charandwip Darbar Sharif among other. Renowned Pir-Mashaikhs, educationists, journalists, writers, researchers and representatives from different walks of life were also present.
In his concluding speech, Professor Dr. Abdus Sabur Khan, the president of the round table meeting and book unveiling ceremony, said that Khwaja Osman Faruqi has elevated Sufi knowledge practice to a new level in contemporary Bengali. A unique combination of spirituality, knowledge, human values and social responsibility is observed in his works. In the context of increasing mental instability, moral degradation and spiritual emptiness in the present world, Sufi knowledge and spiritual practice are gaining new importance. The book ‘Sufi Psychology’ presents a creative dialogue between the development of the human mind, self-purification, self-awareness, spiritual excellence and Islamic spiritual tradition with modern psychology.
The official cover of the book ‘Sufi Psychology’ was unveiled at the event and a detailed discussion was held on the content, research value and contemporary relevance of the book. At the same time, the philosophy, thought, and social thought of Khwaja Osman Faruqi’s much-discussed books ‘Sufi Meditation’, ‘Sufinama’, ‘Kun Fayakun’, the science of the soul, and his other books are also highlighted.
