Bangladesh Bank and Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC signed a participation agreement under the Tk 10,000 (ten thousand) crore refinancing scheme for agriculture and food security. Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC signed the said participation agreement at a function organized at the Conference Hall of Bangladesh Bank Head Office on 18 August 2026. Bangladesh Bank has launched a Tk 10,000 (ten thousand) crore refinancing scheme for the agriculture and rural sector with the aim of increasing agricultural production and creating rural employment to ensure the country’s food security and, above all, achieving economic growth of the country. Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC signed the participation agreement under the said schemes, a press release said.
AKM Sayduzzaman, Director of Agricultural Credit Division-2 of Bangladesh Bank and Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC. signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. As part of the ceremony, F.M. Newaz Ali, Head of SME and Agricultural Investment Department, Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC handed over the agreement. Among others, Rafia Sultana, Additional Director of Agricultural Credit Division-2 of Bangladesh Bank, Md Sakhawat Hossain, Joint Director and Md. Rafiqul Islam, Unit In-charge of SME & Agricultural Investment Department of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC were present at the ceremony.
Through this participation, Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC has reaffirmed its commitment to contribute to the development of the country’s agricultural and rural economy, increase agricultural productivity and create productive employment in rural areas by providing agricultural investment facilities at a simple profit rate of 8% under the said scheme, and to contribute to the expansion of agriculture through easy and affordable financing for farmers in light of the guidelines of Bangladesh Bank.
