RAB-7 has arrested 9 people including Michael Rohen Mia, one of the organizers of the attack, vandalism and looting of the office of the internet service provider 'Digital Dot Net' (DDN) in Chawkbazar, Chattogram metropolis. Four local weapons used in the attack have been recovered.
They were arrested in various areas of Chattogram metropolis and the district on Saturday (July 18).
The arrested are - Michael Rohen Mia alias Michael (31) of Nabiganj, Habiganj, Md. Tuhin (22) and Akbar Hossain (38) of Baniachong, Md. Abdul Mumin (30), Md. Masad Mia (27), Md. Didar Mia (22), Sanjat Hasan (18), Sairat Hossain (18) and Md. Saifuddin (32) of Satkania, Chattogram.
RAB said that on July 11, a person identified as 'David-Emon' demanded a one-time ransom of Tk 20 million and Tk 1 million per month on the personal WhatsApp number of 'Digital.Net' (DDN) owner Adil Bin Mamun. However, he refused to pay the ransom.
Then, on July 13, between 12:15 pm and 12:30 pm, an armed group of 30 to 40 people carried out a pre-planned attack on the internet office in the Chawkbazar area. The attackers entered the office with country-made weapons and vandalized various items including furniture, computers, servers, monitors, laptops. It is alleged that the attackers looted about Tk 3.5 million kept in the office for paying salaries to employees and fled.
The manager of the institution filed a case against 30 to 40 unknown people at Chawkbazar Police Station. The case was filed at Chawkbazar Police Station on July 13. Charges have been filed under sections 147, 448, 427, 385, 380, 109, 506 and 34 of the Penal Code in the case.
RAB-7 said that intelligence surveillance was increased to arrest those involved in the incident. In continuation of this, nine people, including Michael, one of the organizers of the attack, were arrested in various places in Chattogram city and the district on Saturday. Four domestic weapons used in the attack were recovered during this time.
RAB said that legal action is under process against the arrested.
