Biman Bangladesh Airlines' Sylhet-Manchester direct flight has resumed, ending long-standing demands and expectations. One of the most pressing demands of Bangladeshis living in the UK, especially the Sylheti community, was to resume this route. And Humayun Kabir, Honorable Advisor to the Prime Minister at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Joint Secretary General of BNP, has played an important role in making that demand a reality.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight number BG-208 will arrive at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet from Manchester at 11:50 am tomorrow. Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam Rita and Advisor Humayun Kabir are scheduled to be present to welcome the passengers of the flight.
Humayun Kabir's initiative to demand the resumption of the Sylhet-Manchester route began on January 29. On that day, he met with the leaders of the UK BNP and the then interim government's security advisor and Biman Bangladesh director Dr. Khalilur Rahman. In the meeting, he sought a detailed explanation about the reason for the closure of the flight and raised a strong demand from the government to resume the route. At the same time, a memorandum was also submitted in this regard.
Later, eight days before the national election, on February 4, at a press conference organized by Dhaka Reporters Unity, Humayun Kabir announced that if the BNP forms the government, he will take the initiative to implement the initiative to resume the Sylhet-Manchester flight.
That promise has become a reality within just four months of the formation of the government. After assuming office as the advisor to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Humayun Kabir prioritized the issue and maintained continuous communication and coordination with the concerned. Along with his initiative, the cooperation and firm stance of the Honorable Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Afroza Khanam Rita, Honorable Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Rashiduzzaman Millat and the concerned authorities, and above all, the consent of the Honorable Prime Minister, are believed to have led to the resumption of this much-awaited flight.
