Eastern University organized its Freshers' Orientation for the Summer Trimester 2026 on Saturday at its permanent campus in Ashulia. The program was presided over by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani.
The Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan, Department of History & Philosophy, North South University. Barrister Safayet Mohammad Raju, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Eastern University, attended the program as the Special Guest.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan emphasized the importance of using Bangla as the medium of instruction in higher education, saying that the use of the mother tongue is essential for quality education and effective learning. He also pointed out that the country's unemployment problem continues due to the lack of industrial development and adequate employment opportunities. Praising the natural surroundings of the Eastern University campus, he compared it to Rabindranath Tagore's Santiniketan. He encouraged the newly admitted students to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of knowledge, the development of human values, and the building of an enlightened life.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani urged the students to uphold moral values and develop themselves into responsible citizens committed to serving the nation and society. He also invited the students to pledge that they would never send their parents to an old-age home under any circumstances. He said that the blessings and satisfaction of parents are among the greatest keys to success in life.
Addressing the freshers, Barrister Safayet Mohammad Raju encouraged them to enjoy every moment of university life while actively participating in their studies and developing their skills. He said that university life is one of the most important stages in shaping a student's future and should be used to its fullest potential.
The program also featured speeches by Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer; Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar; and the Deans of different Schools. The welcome address was delivered by Mohammad Rofiussan, Chairperson of the Department of English and Convener of the Orientation Committee. Heads of different departments, faculty members, administrative officials, staff, guardians, and newly admitted students were also present.
During the orientation, the freshers were introduced to the university's academic system, student support services, clubs and co-curricular activities, and various campus facilities. The program concluded with a colorful cultural performance presented by the students of Eastern University.
