Recovered Yaba missing, carrier released on OC's orders

The Baklia police in Chittagong city have been accused of disappearing one lakh Yaba pills recovered from a policeman on his way to Chittagong city from Cox's Bazar. The recovered drugs were embezzled without filing a case and the main carrier was released on the orders of the officer in charge of the police station. This sensational information has come to light in an internal investigation report of the Chittagong city police. The then officer-in-charge tried to cover up the incident.
Although this investigation report was sent to the police headquarters on April 29 to take departmental action against the people involved, no action has been taken against the accused officer-in-charge yet. Almost six months have passed since the drug recovery incident, no regular case has been filed so far. Despite the strong recommendation to file a case in the investigation committee report, the embezzled Yaba pills could not be recovered. Even the accused policeman directly involved in drug trafficking could not be arrested.
The drug seizure took place on December 8 last year. Later, an audio recording of a conversation between the drug carrier and another person went viral on social media, which brought the matter to the fore. After this incident, a high-level investigation committee headed by Additional Commissioner Wahidul Haque Chowdhury was formed.
After the initial investigation revealed the truth, eight policemen have already been suspended. The suspended officers include two sub-inspectors, four assistant sub-inspectors and two constables. Aftab Uddin, who was in charge of Baklia Police Station at the time of the incident, is currently working as the officer-in-charge of the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong. However, he claimed that all the allegations against him were completely false and fabricated.
