Mymensingh : Train communication between Mymensingh and
Jamalpur was suspended on Wednesday morning after the power car of the
Dhaka-bound Brahmaputra Express derailed in Mymensingh city. Adding to the
disruption, a coach of a relief train sent to recover the stranded train also
derailed while en route to the scene.
The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. near the Ananda
College rail crossing area when the Brahmaputra Express, which had departed
from Jamalpur for Dhaka, suffered a derailment of its power car.
According to railway police, the wheel of the power car
came off the track with a loud noise, forcing the suspension of train
operations on the Mymensingh-Jamalpur route.
A relief train was subsequently dispatched to recover the
derailed locomotive. However, at around 10:00 a.m., one of the wheels of a
coach of the relief train also derailed near the outer signal area of
Mymensingh Railway Station.
Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh Railway Police Station Md.
Akhtar Hossain confirmed the incidents and said recovery operations were
underway.
He said railway workers were first attempting to restore
the derailed relief train. Once that operation is completed, efforts will begin
to recover the derailed power car of the Brahmaputra Express.
The dual derailments caused significant disruption to rail
services on the route, leaving train movement between Mymensingh and Jamalpur
temporarily suspended.
Railway authorities have not yet announced when normal
train operations will resume. An investigation is expected to determine the
causes of both derailments.
