Destiny Group has been systematically robbed and despite investing 117 crores in Baishakhi Television, they are being harassed in fake cases, said Destiny Group and Baishakhi Television Chairman Dr. Rafiqul Amin. He made these remarks while interacting with journalists at the conference room of Baishakhi Television Bhaban in Mohakhali on Saturday afternoon.
Dr. Rafiqul Amin said, "All of Destiny's assets and bank accounts are seized by the government today. Our 4.3 million investors have been waiting for 17 years. If the government is sincere, it is possible to return the money from next month." He claimed that an influential group misled the court and took over the company.
Reciting the history of buying Baishakhi TV, he said that initially, there was a discussion about 50 percent shares for 19 crores. Later, he bought the shares of both parties for 4 crores and 3 crores from the owner of RTV. He acquired 98.77 percent of the shares by taking a written agreement from the main shareholder, Saidullah.
At that time, the company had a liability of 31 crores in Prime Bank and the share certificate was seized. After meeting with Azam J. Chowdhury, he paid 31 crores within 24 hours and returned the certificate. The share transfer was completed on June 29, 2009. Saidullah was paid a total of 61 crores, including an additional 12 crores. Later, he invested a total of 117 crores, including a camera of 40 crores, salary and allowances of 17 crores and MPR of 5 crores, to make the channel HD.
Describing the case against him as fake, he said that the complaint states that he wrote down the shares on March 17, 2007, whereas he bought the TV on June 30, 2009. The investigation officer of Banani Police Station himself called the case fake. He complained that even his friends did not dare to speak up for fear of being accused. A friend of his served 2 years in jail just for inviting him.
Proofing his transparency, he said that in 2006, he installed an ERP system in his organization to stop money laundering. "A thief never installs a CCTV camera in his own house." The idea of Swapna Shahar Properties came from the police constable's question, "A flat for 600 taka, is this a dream?".
According to the investor's calculations, 26 companies have been formed with about 17 billion taka from 43 lakh 50 thousand independent and 17 lakh small investors and 1381 crore taka from 8 lakh and a half members of cooperative societies.
He has three demands from the Prime Minister: 1) speedy disposal of the case in the High Court, 2) opening of the seized bank account of 300 crore taka, 3) return of the property to neutral management. He said that if he opens an account, he will be able to repay the money from next month and will take responsibility for providing employment to 2 crore unemployed people. He said that his organization does not have a single bank loan.
