DHAKA : Restoring eyesight brings light back into people’s
lives and opens new doors of possibility. To bring this light to the
underprivileged, a special voluntary eye care campaign—launched through a Saudi
Arabian humanitarian initiative—is currently underway in Rangpur, Bangladesh.
Aimed at combating blindness and its underlying causes, this program seeks to
ensure eye care for thousands of people while playing a vital role in
preserving vision.
Organized by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid
and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in collaboration with the local partner Al-Basar
International Foundation, the ‘Noor Al-Saudia Voluntary Campaign’ is being
conducted in Rangpur city from October 8 to October 15, 2026.
The campaign targets eye examinations for 4,000
beneficiaries, 400 eye surgeries, and the distribution of 1,000 pairs of
glasses. A team of volunteer doctors from Saudi Arabia has been deployed to
Rangpur to implement these activities.
The primary objectives of the program are to provide
essential medical care to those suffering from eye diseases who lack access to
treatment, to address the risk of blindness, and to help improve the quality of
life for individuals suffering from vision-related issues.
This initiative by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and
Relief Centre reflects Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian commitment to standing by
the vulnerable and needy across the globe. Such programs are implemented based
on a humanitarian philosophy that prioritizes alleviating suffering and
ensuring essential medical care for all, irrespective of race, religion, color,
or social background.
According to experts, timely eye examinations, accurate
diagnosis, and necessary treatment play a crucial role in preventing blindness
and preserving vision. Consequently, this voluntary medical initiative in
Rangpur holds great significance for the underprivileged population. The ‘Noor Al-Saudiya’ campaign, combining
humanitarian aid and medical services, stands as a significant initiative in
humanitarian cooperation between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. It has created
opportunities to expand eye care services for the people of the Rangpur region
and raise awareness about combating blindness.
Driven by the resolve to restore sight, this initiative aims not merely to provide medical treatment, but to pave the way for a more normal, comfortable, and promising life for the underprivileged.
