You are aware that the journey of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) began in 1970. From the beginning, this organization had a non-political character. Even if any leader or member was personally involved in politics, he had no influence on the activities of IDEB. But during the last Awami government, the then leadership politicized IDEB and took a stand against its fundamentalism. Like the farce of the fascist government, the IDEB elections were also corrupted, a press release said.
With the July Revolution of 2024, the then leaders of IDEB went into hiding. As a result, the leaders of Diploma Engineers, who were partners in the revolution, came forward to protect IDEB. Later, an interim central executive committee was formed with the help of national leaders. During the 21 months of the Interim Central Executive Committee, the biggest blow to the interests of diploma engineers in the history of IDEB came from a special group. The Interim Kenik, along with member engineers from all over the country, students of polytechnic institutes and leaders of various service associations, was able to confront it and prevent the conspiracy.
The Interim Kenik took the initiative to elect the elected Kenik in December 2025 and hand over the responsibility to the elected Kenik. But at that time, when the conspiracy of the anti-interest group of diploma engineers took final shape, the highest policy-making body of IDEB, in the council session, approved the Interim Kenik to serve until December 2026 and recommended that the election be held in December. In view of this, when the application was made to the Department of Social Welfare to renew the registration until December 2026, the department renewed it with time until June 30, 2026.
In this situation, the Election Commission took the initiative to organize interim by-elections. The Election Commission announced the election schedule and started the election process. When the Election Commission published the list of valid candidates on June 20, 2026, demands were raised against some candidates of a panel to be removed from the list, calling them allies of fascists, and the election atmosphere became heated.
The ruling party’s high command was angered by the fact that instead of a unified panel, the government party was divided into three panels and formed a panel with people identified as fascists. In response, the Election Commission postponed the election on June 25, 2026, the day the final candidate list was published, at noon. Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare issued an order on June 29, 2026, extending the term of the interim central committee until December 31, 2026, which was canceled again on July 2, 2026.
The above-mentioned developments make it clear that the traditional universal IDEB is in a great crisis today due to the internal conflict of the government party diploma engineers.
In this current crisis, it was necessary to complete the postponed elections following the constitution of IDEB or to complete the elections through a small committee as per the rules of the Department of Social Welfare. Instead of going through this process, the government party is focusing on forming another elected and party interim committee which will not be acceptable to the general engineers.
Meanwhile, a conspiracy is going on against diploma engineers and technical education. Therefore, I strongly demand from all concerned to take necessary steps to form a universal IDEB and bring dynamism by completing the general elections of IDEB without delay.
