The government is working towards creating 10 million job opportunities in the country and abroad. In order to implement this goal, the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) is emphasizing on enhancing cooperation between universities, industry and commercial institutions, along with making young people skilled, a press release said.

UGC member Professor Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun said these things as the chief guest at the roundtable discussion and MoU signing ceremony titled 'Industry-Academia Collaboration Initiatives' organized at Comilla University on Tuesday (August 18, 2026).

42 leading institutions participated in the program along with Comilla University. Later, six MoUs were signed between the university and the participating institutions.

Professor Abdullah-Al-Mamun said that it is not enough to just produce graduates with academic knowledge, but they should be given the opportunity to acquire skills suitable for the workplace.  The UGC is working to create mandatory internships and job opportunities for students to develop skilled manpower according to the needs of the industry.

He said that in order to achieve the goal of employment by 2030, internship and career center activities are being strengthened along with third language education and soft skills training for students. By getting involved with industrial institutions from their university life, students will be able to prepare themselves by understanding the needs of the workplace. This will also give them the opportunity to develop as entrepreneurs in the future.

The UGC member said that initiatives are being taken to develop students as entrepreneurs by providing innovation funds and startup support, and through this, the connection between the university's knowledge, research and innovation, and the industry and the economy will be further strengthened.

He also said that the government's employment plan is also giving importance to information technology, foreign employment and creating young entrepreneurs. In the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, an allocation of Tk 5 billion has been proposed for startups, women and young entrepreneurs. In addition, an action plan of Tk 8 billion has been taken to develop the creative economy.

Comilla University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr.  The event, chaired by MM Shariful Karim, was addressed by the university's Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Amjad Hossain Sarkar and Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Belal Uddin, along with other relevant persons
