A Doa Mahfil was organized by the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) on the occasion of the 82nd birthday of former Prime Minister and national leader Begum Khaleda Zia. The program highlighted Begum Khaleda Zia's long political life, her role in establishing the country's democracy and human rights, and various aspects of her contribution to the politics of Bangladesh, a press release said.
While delivering his speech at the program, REHAB President Dr. Ali Afzal recalled with deep respect the long political life of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, her role in establishing the country's democracy, and her commitment to the people. He said that the people of the country will remember Begum Khaleda Zia's contribution to the political history of Bangladesh and her long-standing leadership. The determination with which she pursued politics despite various adversities and political crises will remain important in the political history of the country.
The REHAB President also said that the greatest proof of the love and respect of the common people for Begum Khaleda Zia was found during her last farewell. The spontaneous participation of a large number of people from different parts of the country in her funeral proves how deep the love and emotion was in the hearts of the common people for her. The presence of such a large number of people is not only a respect for a political leader, but also a great reflection of her long political life and her relationship with the people.
REHAB Director Md. Mahbubur Rahman said at the event that Begum Khaleda Zia's political role is deeply intertwined with various important turning points and crises in the democratic politics of Bangladesh. Especially, her role in the anti-dictatorship movement, the re-establishment of parliamentary democracy and the subsequent strengthening of democratic institutions has been an important chapter in the political history of the country.
Md. Mahbubur Rahman especially highlighted Begum Khaleda Zia's position during the political crisis of One-Eleven. He said that Begum Khaleda Zia's steadfast stance in staying in Bangladesh instead of leaving the country despite various pressures and adversities is a notable example of her political firmness and sense of responsibility towards the country. He further said that Begum Khaleda Zia has had a significant impact on the country's politics in every field. He mentioned that the economic and social development initiatives, education, infrastructure and women's empowerment taken under her leadership at different times are also important in the discussion of the political history of Bangladesh.
