Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association
(BGMEA) has taken a special initiative to strengthen the backward linkages and
upper supply chain of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector, attract new
foreign investment, and inject new capital and technology into closed or
operating factories.
A bilateral meeting was held between BGMEA leaders and a
high-level delegation of the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh (OCAIB)
at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka on Tuesday (04 August 2026). The meeting
discussed increasing Chinese investment in the ready-made garment industry and
developing strategic joint ventures.
The meeting was led by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan
Khan. Also present on behalf of the
organization were BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Director Shah
Raeed Chowdhury, Director Joarder Mohammad Hosne Qamar Alam and Director Samiha
Azim.
The OKAI delegation included OKAI Vice President Lisa Lou,
Vice President and Secretary General Vivian Huang, Executive Director Steven
Zhang and Secretary Tina Hu.
The Chinese delegation informed that foreign investment is
very important to strengthen and modernize the upper supply chain of the
garment sector in Bangladesh. Although many Chinese companies are deeply
interested in setting up factories, transferring technology and expanding their
business in Bangladesh, they are unable to make the right decision due to the
lack of necessary and accurate information. They sought active information
support and coordination from BGMEA in this regard.
In view of this demand from Chinese entrepreneurs, the
BGMEA President said that he will collect information from his members through
email. All domestic entrepreneurs who are interested in adding Chinese capital
and advanced technology to their operating or closed factories, or are looking
for joint venture partners through 100% ownership/share transfer, will be
requested to inform BGMEA with the following information: Name and general
description of the factory Size/space of the factory Description and number of
equipment Current condition of the factory Type of expected partnership
Based on the information received, BGMEA will analyze the
nature and capacity of the factory and share it with OKAIBE.
Through this one-stop process, BGMEA and OKAIBE will
jointly create an effective business connection between domestic factory owners
and potential Chinese investors. As a
result, on the one hand, closed and ailing factories will get the opportunity
to restart with new capital and technology, on the other hand, foreign
investment in backward linkages and high-value garment production will be
accelerated.
BGMEA requests both interested factory owners and
investors to send detailed proposals to the designated email (investment@bgmea.com.bd).
