Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to showcase Bangladesh’s major foreign exchange earner, the textile and ready-made garment sector, on the global stage in a stronger, more innovative and environmentally friendly manner, a press release said.

BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell and BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan signed this  MoU  on August 04 (Tuesday) at Dhaka .

The main objective of this joint venture is to enhance the global competitiveness of Bangladesh’s ready-made garments and textiles sector, modernize it through technology and expand into new markets to achieve the $100 billion export target. To this end, a world-class ‘Bangladesh International Textile and Apparel Machinery Exhibition (BITMA)‘ will be organized in collaboration with an internationally renowned event organizer, which will bring an unprecedented combination of automation, artificial intelligence (AI), cutting-edge technology and sustainable fashion trends. The top leadership, Office Bearers, Board Members and Former Directors of both the organizations and visionary policy makers were present at the MoU signing ceremony.

The following spoke at the event: Shawkat Aziz Russell, President, BTMA; Mahmud Hasan Khan, President, BGMEA; A. Matin Chowdhury, Former President, BTMA and Managing Director, New Asia Limited; Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), former President, BGMEA and current President of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI); Abdullah Al Mamun, former Vice President, BTMA and Mizanur Rahman, Vice President (Finance), BGMEA.

Key Aspects of the MoU: Joint Organizing Committee: A strong 10-member Joint Organizing Committee will be formed to ensure the management, strategic decisions and financial transparency of the exhibition, with equal representation of 5 members each from BTMA and BGMEA Rotational Leadership: The chairmanship of the committee will rotate between the two organizations every year. In the first year, the Chairman will be nominated from BTMA and the Co-Chairman from BGMEA.

BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell said, “The textile and garment sectors are two sides of the same coin. This MoU is not just an exhibition, but a permanent platform for technological transformation, attracting foreign investment and developing skills. By bringing international top technology suppliers directly to Dhaka, we will give our local manufacturers a few steps ahead in the global competition.”

BGMEA President , Mahmud Hasan Khan said in his speech, “Our main goal is to keep Bangladesh at the forefront of the revolution in artificial intelligence and green technology that is taking place in the global garment industry. This united effort of BTMA and BGMEA will help our industry produce high-value products and take Bangladesh’s image to new heights as a trusted hub for ethical and eco-friendly garment production.”

The ceremony expressed optimism that the signing of the two top leaders will open the door to new possibilities in the country’s economy through increased foreign investment in Bangladesh, direct technology transfer, and the creation of new commercial networks worldwide
