Chapainawabganj BGB meets to sustain drug, arms, smuggling curbs

Chapainawabganj, a district on the Bangladesh-India border, has long been known as a risky area for drugs, weapons, smuggling and illegal infiltration. The Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB) has been relentlessly performing its duty to keep this border safe. Based on intelligence information, the battalion has conducted one successful operation after another through special operations, regular patrols, additional check posts and modern surveillance.

In the latter part of 2025 and early 2026, 53 BGB recovered foreign pistols, magazines and bullets in several special operations. Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman said that considering the threat of arms smuggling and sabotage across the border, intelligence surveillance and special operations were strengthened, which made it possible to recover these weapons.

53 BGB has also shown significant success in anti-drug operations. Heroin, marijuana, yaba, Indian escafe syrup and other narcotics have been seized at different times. In 2025, a drug dealer was arrested with 3.3 kg of heroin and cash in a raid in the Charbaghdanga area. In addition, a large amount of Indian drugs were seized in multiple raids in 2026.

The battalion's role in preventing smuggling is also commendable. 53 BGBs have seized Indian cows and buffaloes, recovered various smuggled goods, and conducted a series of raids to prevent illegal trade at the border. According to the battalion, additional patrols and intelligence surveillance have been further strengthened in remote areas and river routes of the border.

Not only raids, 53 BGBs are also working in coordination with the local administration, police, customs, and other agencies to maintain law and order at the border. Their activities in curbing illegal infiltration, human trafficking, and border crimes have increased the sense of security among the border residents.

Statement of 53 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman said,

"In addition to ensuring border security, 53 BGB is always ready to prevent any kind of smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal activities. Intelligence surveillance, special patrols and check posts have been further strengthened and such operations will continue in the future."

Expectations of border residents According to the residents of the border area of Chapainawabganj, criminal activities on the border have reduced to a large extent due to the regular patrols and strict surveillance of the BGB. They believe that the border will be safer if the use of modern technology and the cooperation of the local people continue.
