Chittagong Port takes another step towards becoming a paperless port

Chittagong Port Authority has taken another important step towards fully automated and paperless port management. By upgrading the port's Terminal Operation System (TOS), all paper-based activities related to the delivery of goods have been stopped. From now on, every step, from the application for delivery order to the final permission for the goods or containers to leave the port, will be completed completely online.
The port authority said that although ship movement and container transfer activities within the port have been conducted through TOS since 2011, most of the delivery-related work was done manually. Earlier, only the application and approval of electronic delivery orders could be done online, while the rest of the activities were paper-based. With the new system, the entire process will now be completed digitally.
One of the features of the new system is that each step must be completed in the prescribed order. No customer or C&F agent can proceed to the next step without completing one step. The next step will be automatically initiated only after a step is successfully completed and verified.
To ensure security and legal compliance, the port's TOS has been linked to the National Board of Revenue's Asycuda World system through instant information exchange. As a result, if the customs authorities detain any container or goods, that information will be immediately sent to the port system. After that, all further activities of the related document will automatically stop and the process will be suspended until the final customs clearance is received.
According to the port authority, the introduction of this new system will significantly reduce the use of paper in official work. This will not only reduce printing costs but also play a positive role in preserving the environment. Delivery-related work will be completed faster as there is no need to go around to submit documents to different offices. This will save time and effort for C&F agents, traders and everyone involved in the port.
In addition, since each step is digitally verified, it will be easier to prevent fraud, the use of fake documents, and administrative irregularities. Users can log in to their own account at any time and instantly know the status of their documents or applications.
The port authority believes that this digital transformation is a groundbreaking initiative in the modernization of Chittagong Port. Through this, the transparency, efficiency and quality of service of Chittagong Port as the country's main seaport will be further enhanced and its position in international trade will be further strengthened.
