Two senior officials of United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB), one of the country’s leading private commercial banks, Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman and Md. Ridwanul Hoque, have been promoted to the position of Deputy Managing Director (DMD). Prior to their promotion, Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman served as Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Retail Business Division, while Md. Ridwanul Hoque served as Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Distribution & Strategy Division. 

Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman Enriched with over 27 years of extensive banking experience, Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman completed his Master’s degree in 1995. He began his banking career in May 1999 with ANZ Grindlays Bank. Following its merger, he joined Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh in 2001, where he successfully served in various key capacities, including Head of Corporate Branch and Director of Personal & Priority Client Acquisition. In October 2022, he assumed the role of Head of Retail Business Division at UCB. He also served as the Head of Service Quality and Imperial Banking. Currently, he is leading the execution of the bank’s retail business strategies. Under his leadership, UCB’s Retail Business Division has achieved significant success in strengthening business structures, improving operational efficiency, developing processes, and fostering a performance-driven organizational culture. His long-standing experience in branch banking, retail banking, and customer relationship management continues to contribute significantly to the bank’s sustainable growth and effective leadership. Furthermore, he is serving as a member of the Board of Directors of UCB Asset Management Limited as a nominated representative of United Commercial Bank PLC. Throughout his career, he has participated in various leadership development and professional training programs both at home and abroad, including in Europe and America. 

Md. Ridwanul Hoque Md. Ridwanul Hoque obtained his BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Chittagong. He boasts over 24 years of experience in the banking sector. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership across the banking sector by serving in crucial roles at various local and multinational financial institutions, including HSBC and Bank Alfalah. Prior to joining UCB, he served as the Head of Retail & SME Business Division at NCC Bank PLC, where he played a pivotal role in business expansion and the development of innovative banking services. Currently at UCB, he oversees the operations of all branches, sub-branches network, the Agent Banking Division, and the Alternative Delivery Channel Division. Under his leadership, through these operations, the bank has further strengthened customer-centric service expansion, financial inclusion, and business growth. During his professional career, he has participated in numerous skill development and professional training programs both home and abroad, including in Brunei, Thailand, India, Singapore and the UAE. United Commercial Bank PLC has promoted Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman and Md. Ridwanul Hoque to the position of Deputy Managing Director (DMD) in recognition of their vast experience, efficient leadership, and professional excellence. Over the past two years, the contributions of these two officials have been instrumental in UCB’s consistent deposit growth, acquisition of new customers and accounts, business expansion, and overall growth.
