BEIJING : Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China called on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Great Hall of the People here this morning. 
 
He arrived at the Great Hall of the People here around 9.30am (local time) from Tiananmen Square.
  
Earlier today, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tributes at the Monument to the People's Heroes at the Tiananmen Square here by placing a special red-green wreath.
  
The national anthems of the two countries were played on the occasion while the bugle sounded the last post.
  
After laying the wreath at the Monument, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the Chinese revolutionary heroes.
  
On his arrival at the square around 9.10am (local time), a smartly turned out contingent of the Chinese Armed Forces gave the Bangladesh premier the state salute.

The prime minister is now in Beijing on a four-day official visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang.
 
 From the square, the premier arrived at the Great Hall of the People to join the meeting with Zhao Leji.
   
Later, the premier is scheduled to join a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People here today.
  
The Prime Minister began his maiden official foreign tour on June 21 with a visit to Malaysia. He then travelled to the Chinese city of Dalian on Monday night to attend the World Economic Forum's Summer Davos 2026. 
  
After participating in various events there for two days, he arrived in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon.
  
On Thursday, Bangladesh and China signed 13 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) for bilateral cooperation in various areas coinciding with a bilateral meeting between the two nations led by the Bangladesh prime minister and his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang from respective sides at the Great Hall of the People here.
  
Following the meeting and signing of MoUs, Tarique Rahman along with his delegation joined a banquet hosted by Li Qiang at the Great Hall.
 
On that day, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) signed a MoU at Beijing’s state guesthouse Diaoyutai.
 
 Chinese Water Resources Minister Li Guoying also called on the Bangladesh prime minister at Diaoyutai state guest house here.
  
Tarique Rahman also addressed an event titled "Invest Bangladesh" jointly organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at Diaoyutai hotel.
  
Tarique Rahman, also the BNP chairman, held a party-to-party meeting with Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, at the Diaoyutai state guesthouse.
 
Senior executives from several major industrial groups met with the Prime Minister during his stay in China.
  
Representatives from the China International Development Cooperation Agency, China Railway Construction Corporation, China Road and Bridge Corporation, along with investors, ministers, and other prominent figures, also met with him to discuss ways to expand investment and trade and contribute more effectively to Bangladesh's development journey.
  
The Prime Minister arrived in Beijing yesterday when he was welcomed with highest state honour, including a ceremonial red-carpet reception and exceptional hospitality.
 
Like his visits to Malaysia and the World Economic Forum’s summer meet in China, this trip was also undertaken with a very small delegation of only 25 members, including 11 ministers, state ministers, and advisers.
  
Tarique Rahman's visit to China is the second leg of his maiden official overseas visit after his Malaysia tour.
  
In the first phase, he visited Malaysia at the invitation of Malaysian counterpart. 
  
Despite the brief duration of the visit, he met with Malaysian King, Malaysian prime minister and other important dignitaries, and held extensive discussions on matters of mutual interest and issues concerning Bangladesh.
  
In the second phase of his foreign tour, the Prime Minister traveled to Dalian, China, at the invitation of the World Economic Forum (WEF) conference.
  
There, he participated in the WEF's Annual Meeting of the New Champions which is widely known as Summer Davos.
  
The conference brought together distinguished personalities from around the world, including prime ministers of China, South Korea, Montenegro, Mongolia, Guinea, and Kazakhstan.
  
The WEF President and CEO also called on Tarique Rahman when he highlighted Bangladesh's various climate initiatives in the past four months since the formation of the government drawing widespread appreciation from the international audience.
  
The premier is scheduled to depart Beijing for Dhaka at 5:00 pm today (local time).
