DHAKA : A court here today placed former Feni-3 lawmaker 
Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury on a four-day remand in a 
case lodged over allegations of embezzling Taka 119 crore through sending 
workers to Malaysia.

Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the 
order as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) produced Chowdhury before the 
court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

The same court on May 18, 2026 showed the former lawmaker arrested in the 
case.

The ACC has filed a case against former Feni-3 MP and retired Lt Gen Masud 
Uddin Chowdhury, over allegations of embezzling Taka 119 crore through 
irregularities in sending workers to Malaysia.

According to the case statement, Masud Uddin Chowdhury and others were 
involved in criminal breach of trust and abuse of power in labour recruitment 
activities. 

During his tenure as MP, he acted as a recruitment agent and, using political 
influence, collected excess payments from migrant workers beyond the approved 
fee structure, it said.

The statement further said that additional charges were taken from 7,124 
workers for passports, medical tests and other services, resulting in the 
embezzlement of the funds.

He has been charged under the Penal Code, the Money Laundering Prevention Act 
and the Anti-Corruption Act.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) 
detained him during a raid in the Baridhara DOHS area of the capital on March 
23.
