Eastern University renews EEE program's Washington Accord accreditation

A day-long celebration was held to mark the 3rd IEB-BAETE (Washington Accord-recognized) accreditation renewal of the BSc in EEE program of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Eastern University. The event, organized on the university campus, was attended by teachers, students, officials and alumni, a press release said.
Eastern University’s BSc in EEE program had previously been included in the Washington Accord-recognized IEB-BAETE accreditation twice in a row. This year, the university’s EEE program has been renewed for the third time. As a result, the program will remain under this international accreditation for another six years from 2026 to 2032.  This achievement is being considered as an important and honorable milestone in improving the quality of engineering education at the university and maintaining international standards.
At the beginning of the day-long event, a colorful joy rally was held on the university campus. The rally, with the participation of teachers and students of the EEE department, circumambulated various roads of the campus. Later in the afternoon, the main program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Professor Emeritus and former Vice Chancellor of United International University and former Chairman of Power Grid Bangladesh PLC, Professor Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, was present as the chief guest at the program. Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid Ahmed Sobhani, delivered an important speech at the program. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Eastern University, Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, presided over the program. The program was moderated by Professor Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Humayun, Head of the EEE Department of the university.
At the beginning of the program, Treasurer of Eastern University, Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, delivered an important speech. He congratulated the teachers, students, alumni and officials of the EEE Department for this achievement. He said that achieving international recognition is a reflection of the academic excellence and continuous improvement of the quality of an institution.
Then, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, spoke. He mentioned the renewal of the IEB-BAETE accreditation of the EEE Department for the third time as a matter of great pride for Eastern University. He said that this achievement is not just the result of a department; rather, it is the result of the collective efforts of all concerned, including the teachers, students, officials, alumni of the university. He expressed his determination to take Eastern University further forward through international quality education and research in the future.
In his speech as the chief guest, Professor Dr. M. Rezwan Khan congratulated the authorities, teachers and students of Eastern University for the renewal of the accreditation of the EEE Department.  He urged the students to build their future through ethics, skills, leadership and patriotism in addition to acquiring academic knowledge. In his directional speech, emphasis was laid on preparing the students to face the challenges of the future and become skilled engineers and responsible citizens.
After the directional speech of the chief guest, the students took the oath, expressing their determination to build a better future by learning from his speech. Eastern University Registrar Dr. Abul Bashar Khan administered the oath to the students. At this time, the students participated in the oath by raising their hands.
At one stage of the program, the EEE Department and Eastern University presented a memento to the chief guest, Professor Dr. M. Rezwan Khan. In the concluding part of the program, the chief guest, Professor Dr. M. Rezwan Khan and Eastern University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani cut the cake with the students.  Through this, this special achievement of the third IEB-BAETE accreditation renewal of the EEE Department was celebrated in a festive atmosphere.
