In the Muradnagar area, under the jurisdiction of the Bayezid Bostami Police Station in Chittagong city, a tenant named Md. Rubel—also known as “Donar Rubel”—has been accused of assaulting his landlord. The altercation reportedly arose when the landlord attempted to stop Rubel from subletting the rented office space to another party. The landlord, 54-year-old Md. Selim, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
The incident occurred around 10:30 AM on Sunday (November 1) inside an office space located within Selim’s warehouse, near the “Tula Company” building in Mirpara.
Selim’s wife, Nargis Akter, has filed a formal complaint at the Bayezid Bostami Police Station, naming Rubel and six others as suspects, along with 5–6 unidentified individuals.
According to the complaint, Rubel had rented the office space from Selim on March 1 of this year under a two-year agreement. However, about a month ago, the landlord asked Rubel to vacate the premises, citing the frequent presence of various individuals and allegations of “antisocial activities.” Although Rubel was expected to vacate the space within three months, he attempted to sublet it to someone else without Selim’s permission.
This led to a heated argument between Selim and Rubel on the morning of the incident. The complaint alleges that Rubel summoned several people, confined Selim within the office, and assaulted him with sticks. As a result, Selim suffered a head injury and a fracture in his left forearm (below the elbow). He was subsequently rescued by family members and local residents, who transported him to CMCH. He is currently receiving care in the hospital’s Orthopedics and Traumatology department.
Ikhtiar Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bayezid Bostami Police Station (under the Chittagong Metropolitan Police - CMP), confirmed the incident and stated that an individual named Rubel has been detained in connection with the assault and vandalism. An investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action is being taken.
Meanwhile, police sources have revealed that Md. Rubel, alias “Donar Rubel,” is a listed criminal with the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP). He faces several pending cases, including charges related to the killing of a student during the July protests, as well as offenses involving weapons and narcotics.
