DHAKA : A law on rooftop solar power generation will be passed in the next session of the parliament, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said today.
He made the remarks at a roundtable organised by the New Age in the capital.
The minister said the energy and power challenges arising from the global situation can't be resolved overnight. However, the government was making continuous efforts to maintain a tolerable level of energy and power supply, keeping public interest in mind.
He said the government is determined to tackle the crisis caused by the ongoing conflicts around the world and maintain stability in the country's energy sector.
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said the government has been compelled to provide subsidies in necessary areas to manage the energy crisis stemming from the war in the Middle East and reduce the burden of energy shortages on the people.
Ensuring uninterrupted electricity and gas supply for citizens is one of the main responsibilities of an elected government, he said, adding that people also expect normal energy supplies.
The minister said the government is committed to maintaining a stable energy supply under all circumstances.
As part of the efforts, initiatives have been taken to install more floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), or floating LNG terminals, in line with demand to help address supply shortages.
