The Narayanganj District Health Department has launched an extensive campaign to raise public awareness about dengue prevention.
On Sunday (October 18), dengue awareness leaflets were distributed at Wapda Bridge in Fatullah Union and the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises in the morning in the presence of Aminul Haque, Senior Health Education Officer at the Office of the Civil Surgeon, Narayanganj.
Among those present were District EPI Superintendent Lutfor Rahman, Cold Chain Technician Sarwar Alam, Health Assistant Suma Saha and other officials and employees of the health department.
Aminul Haque said that, following the Prime Minister’s directives, the Health Minister instructed officials at a virtual meeting on October 13 to intensify dengue prevention activities, including public announcements through loudspeakers, leaflet distribution and cleanliness drives.
Subsequently, a letter signed by the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services and the head of the Bureau of Health Education on October 14 called for strengthening health education activities to prevent dengue, he added.
In line with these directives, loudspeaker announcements and cleanliness campaigns have been intensified across all upazilas of the district. Leaflets are being distributed, dengue awareness activities are being conducted at community clinics, and health assistants are organising courtyard meetings to educate residents about prevention measures.
As part of the ongoing initiative, awareness activities and leaflet distribution continued at Wapda Bridge in Fatullah Union and the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises on Sunday.
Haque urged everyone to work together to prevent dengue by keeping household surroundings clean, clearing bushes and removing stagnant water from plastic containers, tyres, tubes, the undersides of refrigerators and flowerpots.
He also advised people to use mosquito nets while sleeping and seek prompt medical attention if they develop a fever.
“Let us all become aware, work together to prevent dengue, seek timely treatment and save lives,” he urged.
