Saching Prue, MP, Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, has called for the development of planned, sustainable, safe, and eco-friendly tourism infrastructure to harness the immense potential of Bangladesh’s tourism sector.
He made this call today while speaking as the chief guest at a reception organized by the ‘Bandarban Businessmen’s Unity Council’ at the Sadar Upazila Conference Hall in Bandarban Hill District.
Highlighting the tourism potential of the hill region, the Minister stated that local people must be directly involved in the process to ensure they reap the primary benefits of the tourism sector. Simultaneously, efforts must be made through effective coordination among relevant ministries, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board, the three Hill District Councils, the LGED, and other government agencies to ensure environmental protection and the sustainable development of tourism standards.
Expressing his vision to transform Bandarban into an ideal tourist city, Minister Saching Prue said, “Our primary goal is to build a clean and tourism-friendly Bandarban city. Countless tourists from home and abroad visit to enjoy the city’s beauty. Therefore, our business community and everyone associated with the tourism sector must cultivate high standards of professionalism, courtesy, and hospitality.”
He further emphasized the necessity of ensuring cleanliness in hotels and motels, keeping kitchens and restrooms hygienic, and providing international-standard hospitality to foreign tourists. Bandarban must be firmly established on the global stage through peaceful and cordial conduct.
Touching upon the modernization of the agriculture and livestock sectors, Saching Prue, MP, mentioned that important meetings had previously been held with the Ministers of Fisheries and Livestock and of Agriculture to improve the economic fortunes of the region’s agriculture sector and its marginalized farmers. Discussions during these meetings focused on taking effective measures to boost the production of promising agricultural products from the Chittagong Hill Tracts—such as cashews, coffee, ginger, turmeric, and pineapples—as well as promoting antibiotic-free local chicken rearing, multi-cropping, and the development of irrigation systems for the hilly terrain. Minister Saching Prue, MP, pledged to create opportunities for hill farmers to play a significant role in the national economy through the adoption of modern technology.
Presided over by Hafez Md. Azizul Haque, President of the Bandarban Businessmen’s Unity Council, the reception meeting was addressed by special guests including Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Md. Saniul Ferdous, Bandarban Municipal Administrator S.M. Manjurul Haque, and Bandarban Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Marufa Sultana Khan Hira.
