The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested Md. Mozammel Haque, alias Kabir (50), on charges of swindling money from plaintiffs and defendants in various legal cases by posing as an officer from different police units. Various devices used in the fraud were recovered from his possession.
The PBI stated that Mozammel Haque was arrested during a raid in the Gouripur area of Subarnachar Police Station, Noakhali, within 48 hours of a case being filed at Raozan Police Station on September 23 regarding the matter.
According to the PBI, a gang used to contact plaintiffs and defendants in various cases by posing as officers from the PBI, CID, and DB. They would collect money via mobile financial services like bKash and Nagad by promising to submit favorable reports or secure exoneration from the cases.
Investigations identified Mozammel Haque as the mastermind behind the fraudulent ring. The PBI reported that he confessed to his involvement in the fraud during initial interrogation.
The PBI further stated that various devices used in the fraudulent activities were recovered based on information provided by him. Operations are underway to identify and arrest other members of the gang.
