A colourful rally and a canal-cleaning campaign were held in NarayanganjSadarUpazila on Saturday as part of the nationwide Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign 2026, aimed at raising public awareness about dengue prevention and maintaining a clean environment.

The programme began on Saturday morning in the South Shastapur area near Link Road and near the Fatullah Stadium in SadarUpazila. A rally was brought out through several important roads in the area to raise awareness among residents about dengue prevention and cleanliness.

The campaign is being organised by the Narayanganj district and Sadarupazila administrations under the direction of Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) MdRaihanKabir. The programme is being conducted every Saturday as part of ongoing efforts to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected the activities during Saturday’s campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, DC MdRaihanKabir said, “This initiative has been taken to strengthen dengue prevention efforts and raise public awareness nationwide. The campaign will continue. With concerns over the increasing incidence of dengue, mosquito control and cleanliness, along with public awareness, are among the most effective ways to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitoes.”

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) S M Foyez Uddin said government initiatives alone would not be sufficient to prevent dengue, stressing that public awareness was essential.

“People must not allow stagnant water to accumulate around their homes. Dumping waste indiscriminately must be stopped. Drains and canals should be cleaned regularly to reduce waterlogging. If we work together, we can protect our communities from mosquito-borne diseases and waterlogging,” he said.

He further said that if every citizen performed their responsibilities from their respective positions, Narayanganj could be developed into a cleaner and more liveable city.

Officials from the district and upazila administrations, political leaders, local representatives and residents took part in the campaign.

As part of the programme, several roads, drains and water bodies were cleaned. Open discussions were also held to raise public awareness about dengue prevention, cleanliness and the importance of eliminating mosquito-breeding grounds.

The authorities said cleanliness and awareness campaigns would continue in Narayanganj as part of ongoing efforts to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases and address waterlogging.
