Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament Barrister Kaiser Kamal MP, a press release said.
The courtesy call was held at the Deputy Speaker’s office at the National Parliament Building today (Tuesday).
During the meeting, cordial discussions were held on various issues related to bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India, parliamentary diplomacy, modernization of parliamentary activities including the use of information technology and strengthening mutual cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dinesh Trivedi praised the magnificent architecture of the National Parliament Building by Louis I. Kahn. Referring to the historical and friendly relations between Bangladesh and India, he said that the two countries are bound by a common history, culture, tradition and mutual interests. He emphasized on increasing parliamentary communication and cooperation to further advance the existing relations. He said that increasing mutual communication between the parliamentarians of the two countries, regular exchange of views and mutual visits of the parliaments of the two countries will play an important role in strengthening the bilateral relations.
Terming the Indian Parliament as a modern parliament, Barrister Kaiser Kamal said that Bangladesh has already taken the initiative to launch the e-parliament system and he expects India’s cooperation in its successful implementation. He mentioned that having an experienced parliamentarian like Dinesh Trivedi as the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh is a great opportunity in this regard. The Deputy Speaker expressed hope that he will play a helpful role in building a bridge between the two countries in parliamentary communication and modernization of the parliamentary system of Bangladesh.
The Deputy Speaker said that if the field of parliamentary diplomatic cooperation is created between Bangladesh and India, it can be a platform for the two countries to exchange excellent experiences.
Both sides expressed optimism about further strengthening the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India, expanding the scope of mutual cooperation and further strengthening the space of mutual trust, stability and confidence, giving top priority to the welfare of the people.
Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh and other senior officials concerned were present during the meeting.
