The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Bangladesh Office, in cooperation with the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), organized Korean Cultural Day 2026 at Mukto Moncho on the SUST campus. The event brought together students, faculty members, and cultural enthusiasts for a day of Korean culture and people-to-people exchange, a press release said.
The programme included a taekwondo demonstration, an interactive quiz competition, and exhibition booths introducing Korean language, traditions, and KOICA’s training and scholarship opportunities. KOICA-WFK Volunteers and SUST student volunteers supported the event’s organization, and the university provided venue and administrative support.
At the opening, KOICA Bangladesh Country Director Mr. Jihoon Kim underscored the role of cultural exchange in strengthening relations between Korea and Bangladesh. In his opening remarks, he mentioned, “Cultural exchange is a bridge of friendship between Korea and Bangladesh, and we are grateful to the university and its volunteers for helping us build it.”
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Khairul Islam also shared his remarks: “We are grateful to KOICA for bringing such a vibrant cultural experience to our students. I hope SUST will host many more initiatives like this in the years ahead.”
The Institute of Modern Languages at SUST currently hosts eight students learning Korean, supported by World Friends Korea (WFK) volunteers. Korean Cultural Day 2026 gave these learners and other students a platform to engage directly with Korean language and culture beyond the classroom.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Deputy Country Director Mr. Kihun Seong, who thanked the university, volunteers, and participants for their active engagement. “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the university, the volunteers, and all the participants for their active engagement today.”
Since 1993, KOICA has worked closely with Bangladesh to support sustainable development and strengthen bilateral cooperation. Korean Cultural Day 2026 at SUST reflects the shared commitment to deepening people-to-people connections through cultural understanding.
