The Forum of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (FDEB) President Engineer Md. Abdus Sattar Shah and General Secretary Engineer Zainul Abedin have issued a statement strongly condemning and protesting the formation of the new interim central committee of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) by the Department of Social Welfare (Memorandum No.- 41.00.0000.000.046.27.0028.22.802, dated 19 October 2026), demanding partisanship in a shameful manner, a press release said.
In the statement, the leaders said - According to Section 9(2) of the Voluntary Social Welfare Organizations (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961, there is a provision to appoint a supervisory committee of maximum five members in place of the temporarily suspended board of directors. Therefore, the approval of the 37-member committee is in conflict with the provisions of the said section.
The leaders also said - Such one-sided representation in determining the leadership of a national professional organization with 100% government party people is worrying for the democratic environment of the organization and the confidence of the members.
The leaders demanded: 1. The one-sided committee formed on 19 October '26 should be abolished and a 09-member election management committee should be formed to conduct the new election by ensuring the representation of diploma engineers of all views and paths. 2. That committee should announce an election roadmap as soon as possible, revealing the reasons for the suspension of the previous election process. 3.  The said 9-member election management committee should complete a free, fair, impartial and participatory election within a specified time frame and hand over the responsibility to the elected leadership.
In the statement, the leaders mentioned that the leadership of IDEB will be determined through the opinions of diploma engineers, democratic rights, constitutional provisions and a free and acceptable electoral process; not based on the influence of any single political party. Since the convener committee formed is unconstitutional, one-sided and illegal, this committee cannot have any effectiveness. We are calling for the cancellation of this committee and the formation of a new small committee only during the election period based on the opinions of the members. Otherwise, FDEB will be forced to walk the path of democratic movement.
