DHAKA : North South University (NSU) has hosted its Fall
Orientation 2026 program today (12 September 2026) at the NSU Plaza Area to
welcome newly admitted students.
Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry
of Water Resources, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, attended the
event as the Chief Guest. The program was also graced by M. A. Kashem, Founder
Member & Former Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU, as the Special Guest; and
Benajir Ahmed, Founder Life Member & Former Chairman, Board of Trustees,
NSU, as the Guest of Honour. Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor
of NSU, served as the Session Chair, alongside Professor Abdur Rob Khan,
Treasurer, NSU.
The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy
Quran and the playing of the National Anthem, followed by a screening of the
NSU documentary. NSU Registrar Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen delivered the welcome address
to the new students.
Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of
Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor ShazzadHosain, Dean of the School of
Engineering and Physical Sciences; Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra, Dean of the
School of Health and Life Sciences; and Professor AKM Waresul Karim, Dean of
the School of Business and Economics, attended the event, representing their
respective schools.
A total of 83 students were awarded scholarships at
various levels, including 14 recipients of 100 percent merit scholarships, in
recognition of their outstanding performance in the Bachelor’s (Honours)
admission test.
Chief Guest, Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee said, “North
South University has long been playing an important role in expanding and
improving higher education in the country. At the school and college levels,
students spend much of their time on textbook-based learning. At the higher
education level, however, they enjoy greater freedom and decision-making
opportunities. At this stage, they must not only acquire knowledge but also
become aware of their responsibilities and obligations towards society and the
country. They must strive to develop themselves by combining intelligence with
good character, ethics and human values.”
M. A. Kashem said, “North South University was
established with the vision of ensuring that the country’s talented young
people would not have to go abroad to receive a world-class education, but could
access quality higher education at home. After a long journey, that vision has
become a reality. Today, North South University stands as a recognised and
prestigious institution in the country’s higher education landscape.”
Benajir Ahmed said, “The world today is more
full of possibilities than ever before. Never underestimate your own potential.
The discipline, hard work and dedication you demonstrate today will lay the
foundation for your success tomorrow. So, along with dreaming big, you must
work hard to turn those dreams into reality.”
Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury told the students, “North
South University has set a distinct benchmark in higher education. When you
come to campus, make the most of the opportunities, facilities and support the
university provides. Your goal should not be limited to acquiring academic
knowledge. You should also prepare yourselves for your professional careers and
develop into responsible and conscientious citizens.”
Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, NSU, delivered the
vote of thanks. The program concluded with a captivating cultural performance
by members of the North South University ShangskritikShangathan (NSUSS).
