DHAKA
: Beximco
Pharmaceuticals PLC and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of North
South University (NSU) have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing
pharmaceutical research, innovation and career development through their
ongoing academic-industry collaboration
The
partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed
last year, with the objective of creating opportunities for students to gain
practical research experience and contribute to the development of Bangladesh’s
pharmaceutical sector. Under the MoU, Beximco Pharma has been providing
financial support and access to its world-class research facilities to selected
MPharm students of NSU to facilitate their thesis projects on specific research
topics.
A
small ceremony was held yesterday at Beximco Pharma’s state-of-the-art
manufacturing facility in Tongi to mark the formal submission of thesis
projects by two MPharm students from NSU. The ceremony was attended by Beximco
Pharma’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rabbur Reza and NSU Vice-Chancellor
Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury.
Speaking
on the occasion, the representatives of both institutions highlighted the
importance of stronger collaboration between academia and industry in
developing skilled professionals and promoting research that can contribute to
the advancement of the pharmaceutical sector.
During
the visit, a 10-member delegation from NSU, led by Professor Abdul Hannan
Chowdhury, also toured Beximco Pharma’s advanced manufacturing facilities in
Tongi. The delegation was briefed on the company’s manufacturing operations,
quality standards and modern pharmaceutical production facilities.
The
collaboration provides NSU students with an opportunity to gain first-hand
exposure to an internationally benchmarked pharmaceutical manufacturing
environment while undertaking research relevant to the industry.
The
initiative reflects Beximco Pharma’s continued commitment to nurturing future
talent, strengthening academia-industry linkages and supporting the advancement
of pharmaceutical research and innovation in Bangladesh.
Through
such collaborations, Beximco Pharma and NSU aim to create greater opportunities
for students to develop research capabilities and practical knowledge,
contributing to a stronger and more skilled pharmaceutical workforce for the
country.
