DHAKA : The government has appointed senior journalist
Muhammad Kader Gani Chowdhury as Managing Director and Chief Editor of
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette
notification today announcing his appointment under Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha
Act, 2018 on a contractual basis for a period of one year from the date of his
joining, reports BSS.
According to notification, his appointment was made on the
condition of relinquishing relation with all government, semi-government,
private and other organizations as well as business and profession.
Chowdhury, Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union
of Journalists (BFUJ) and a well-known figure in the journalism profession,
played a leading role on the streets during the 17-year anti-fascist movement.
He obtained his postgraduate degree from the Department of
History at the University of Dhaka.
During his student life, he also served as Joint General Secretary of the Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA). He began his professional career in 1993 as a Dhaka University correspondent for Bengali newspaper Dainik Dinkal.
During his long career, he also worked at Dainik Ittefaq
and Dainik Amar Desh and also served as Deputy Managing Director of East West
Media Group.
He has been highly active and popular in leadership roles
within professional journalists’ organizations.
He is a member of the management committee of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC). Earlier, he served as Member Secretary of the Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad. He previously served as President of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and Joint Secretary of the JPC.
He also served as Joint Secretary of the Dhaka University Journalists Association. Born at Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram, Chowdhury is the father of one daughter.
