Junior Chamber International (JCI) Manikganj has provided safe and clean water free of arsenic for about 15,000 residents. On Sunday (July 19), a deep tube well installed in the premises of Hazrat Rukaiya Binte Mohammad (SAW) Mahila Madrasa in Angaria village of Singair upazila of Manikganj was officially handed over to the villagers, a press release said.
A statement sent by the organization said that there is a shortage of clean water in Angaria and surrounding areas. On the one hand, the water in this area contains high levels of arsenic, on the other hand, the water supplied by the municipality through the water line is not available properly. And the water that does come is not suitable for drinking or pure. To alleviate this extreme drinking water crisis that has been going on for a long time, a deep tube well was handed over to the villagers by JCI Manikganj.
In this regard, Sabrina Parveen Khan, the 2026 Local President of JCI Manikganj, said, “During the implementation of our ‘Ujjivan’ project in this madrasa in 2025, we came to know that the people of this village have been suffering from a shortage of clean water for a long time. Due to the severity of arsenic and the inadequacy of the municipal water supply, they had to struggle a lot to collect safe water. That’s when we decided to take the initiative to find a permanent solution for this village. The journey of the ‘Joldhara’ project began with that thought. The main goal of JCI Bangladesh is to work to improve the quality of life of the backward communities of the society through sustainable development. The ‘Joldhara’ project has been taken as part of the implementation of that goal, so that people can enjoy the benefits of safe water in the long term.
At this time, Sabrina Parveen Khan, on behalf of JCI Manikganj, expressed special thanks to the Project Coordinator, JCI Manikganj Local Director, Farizma Ahmed, for her overall supervision and special role in the successful implementation of the project.
About ‘Jaldhara’, Abu Sufian Nilove, Immediate Past Local President (IPLP) of JCI Manikganj, said, “This project is a wonderful example of our ‘International Human Duties’. We are very happy to provide this clean water facility for the people of Angaria village. Last year, when I was the local president, we worked on infrastructural development in this madrasa. In continuation of that, along with a previous project, this new program is maintaining the progress of our local organization. He also commented that the Jaldhara project is proof that it is possible to solve a major problem of society in the long term with a little goodwill and joint efforts.”
Thanking JCI Manikganj for implementing such a public welfare work in his district Manikganj, the special guest of the event, Dhaka North BNP Convening Committee member Ziaur Rahman (Zia), said, “The humanitarian duty that JCI Manikganj has fulfilled to eliminate the arsenic and clean water crisis that existed in my own area is truly commendable. Clean water is a fundamental right of humans.” The wealthy and other organizations of the society should also come forward for the welfare of the common people like JCI Manikganj.
Highly praising this project, JCI Dhaka Astral Local President Dr. Cynthia Afrin said, Project Jaldhara is not just an ordinary project, it is an excellent example of achieving International Human Duties and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). JCI Manikganj has very successfully fulfilled these global goals at the grassroots level, which is very inspiring for all of us.

Our goal is to improve the quality of life of the people and play a role in local socio-economic progress by creating permanent and sustainable solutions instead of one-time assistance.
Md. Shahadat Hossain, local representative of Jaldhara Project and local resident, said, JCI Manikganj first provided bench-tools for our madrasa students. That’s when we informed them about the problem of clean water in the villagers. They took the matter seriously and assured a permanent solution. Today, we are very happy to see the implementation of that promise. After consulting experts and testing the soil, tube wells have been installed at the appropriate depth, so that the villagers can use safe and pure water free of arsenic for a long time.
The handover and inauguration ceremony was also attended by JCI Manikganj Local Treasurer Maliat Binte, general members, teachers and students of the madrasa, and local dignitaries.
