Daraz Bangladesh’s women-focused employee community, dWomen, marked International Breast Cancer Awareness Month with “Pink Day,” bringing colleagues across the organisation together in pink to show solidarity with people affected by breast cancer and highlight the importance of awareness and early detection, a press release said.
dWomen was launched in mid-2024 to help create a more inclusive, supportive and empowering workplace for women. The initiative focuses on professional growth, leadership, wellbeing and workplace safety, while creating opportunities for women to connect, learn and support one another.
For Daraz, women’s empowerment is a core commitment and through dWomen, the company has introduced initiatives around employee recognition, mentorship, career development, workplace facilities, flexible work arrangements and women-focused engagement activities.
Pink Day extended that commitment to women’s health. Employees, including both women and men, participated in the initiative, reinforcing the message that breast cancer awareness is a shared concern and that meaningful change requires wider participation.
Reflecting on the initiative, Sumia Rahman, Director, General Operations of Daraz Bangladesh said, “dWomen was created with the belief that supporting women should be part of our everyday workplace culture. Through Pink Day, we wanted to create space for an important conversation around breast health and early detection. When women have access to the right information and feel comfortable speaking about their health, they are better prepared to take timely action and share that knowledge with others.”
As part of the initiative, dWomen will also host a dedicated breast cancer awareness session on 19 October for Daraz’s female employees, where a medical professional will discuss warning signs, preventive awareness, the importance of timely consultation and practical guidance on breast self-examination.
The session is designed to make conversations around breast health more open, informed and comfortable. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions directly and take that knowledge beyond the workplace to their families and communities.
Through Pink Day and other dWomen initiatives, Daraz Bangladesh continues to strengthen a workplace culture where women are supported not only in their careers, but also in their overall wellbeing.
