Dr. Ali Afzal will continue to serve as the President of
the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB).
The High Court today, September 21, 2026, stayed the
effectiveness of the Ministry of Commerce’s decision that had declared the post
of REHAB President—held by Dr. Ali Afzal—vacant. A High Court bench comprising
Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Fatema Anwar issued this order following
the preliminary hearing of a writ petition filed by Dr. Ali Afzal.
Simultaneously, the court issued a rule on the matter and
directed the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce to resolve the appeal and
the application for a stay order submitted by Dr. Ali Afzal on September 15.
The lawyer’s certificate noted that any violation of the court’s order would
amount to contempt of court, a press release said.
As a result, the effectiveness of the Ministry of Commerce’s decision dated September 14, 2026—which had declared the REHAB President’s post vacant—has been temporarily suspended. Consequently, Dr. Ali Afzal’s legal standing to discharge his duties as REHAB President remains intact.
