Police have arrested a young man named Md. Faruk (24) in connection with the gang rape of a third-grade madrasa student at Anwara Police Station.
He was arrested from Pahartali Mahamuni area of Raozan Upazila early on Monday (June 1).
Faruk is a resident of Purba Gahira Haria Para area of Raipur Union No. 3 of Anwara Upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station Md. Junayet Chowdhury said that Faruk was arrested from Raozan based on the help of information technology and secret information.
During the initial interrogation, Faruk confessed to his involvement in the incident. At the same time, he also gave information about the involvement of other accused.
According to the case report, the victim child went to visit his aunt's house on the morning of April 27. On the way to her cousin's house at night, the main accused Abu Taher (42) forcibly took her inside the shop from in front of a local grocery store.
There, it is alleged that she was sexually abused for a long time by threatening her.
The complaint further states that the other accused later took the child to a nearby pond and raped her in turn. They left her there after threatening not to tell anyone about the incident.
In this regard, Anwara Circle Assistant Police Superintendent Mahmudul Hasan said that after long efforts, it was possible to arrest one of the accused in the case. After the legal process, he was sent to court on Monday. The operation to arrest the remaining accused is ongoing.
