State Minister for Liberation War Affairs and Dhaka-6 MP Ishraq Hossain has resigned from the cabinet.
He said, "I am voluntarily resigning from the post of State Minister of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs from today. I have informed this decision to Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He has agreed to it."
He also said that from now on, he will work full-force on drugs and other social problems.
He further said, "Today's situation is due to conducting a campaign against drugs. Where I have to resign from the cabinet against the party's wishes. The party did not want me, I took this decision on my own. From now on, I will enter the field more aggressively, declare war on drugs. "He made the announcement at a press conference at the National Press Club on Monday (October 19) at 2 pm.
Last Saturday, he posted a video of himself chasing illegal drug dealers with weapons on social media. When that post went viral, it sparked a lot of discussion on social media. The next day, Sunday afternoon, he met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Around 10 pm, news spread in the media that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had ordered Ishraq Hossain to resign.
The state-run Bangladesh Television also broadcast news that the Prime Minister had ordered Ishraq to resign. When the news created a stir, Ishraq Hossain wrote on his verified Facebook page that night, "The news in the media regarding the resignation of State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain is untrue and misleading."
A few hours later, Ishraq Hossain announced his formal resignation at noon on his verified Facebook post again on Monday morning.
