DHAKA : The 78th founding anniversary of the Dhaka University Alumni Association was celebrated today with various programmes on the university campus.
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam inaugurated the daylong event as the chief guest at a function held on the Senate Bhaban premises.
Chaired by Shamsuzzaman Dudu, convener of the Dhaka University Alumni Association, the inaugural ceremony was attended by executive committee members of the association and invited guests.
ATM Abdul Bari Danny, member-secretary of the Dhaka University Alumni Association, moderated the event.
Speaking on the occasion, VC Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam urged the Alumni Association to work shoulder to shoulder with the university administration to advance education and research at the DU.
He highlighted that the university administration has taken steps to establish two separate funds-- one for supporting research initiatives and
another for providing scholarships to financially insolvent students.
Prof Obaidul Islam called upon the alumni network to play an effective role in making these initiatives successful.
Noting that the Alumni Association plays a crucial role in strengthening ties between the university and broader society, the Vice-Chancellor sought the association's active support in enhancing industry-academia collaboration.
The discussion session was followed by a cultural performance.
