DHAKA : Bangladesh allrounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz produced
a yet another match-winning bowling performance to guide Guyana Amazon Warriors
to a six-wicket victory over Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier
League (CPL) at Providence Stadium.
Making his CPL debut in the previous match, Miraz had
taken three wickets for just 13 runs.
He followed that up with an impressive four-wicket haul in
his second appearance, earning the Player of the Match award as Guyana chased
down a modest target with eight balls to spare.
Put into bat, Trinbago Knight Riders made a brisk start,
reaching 41 in 4.3 overs before Miraz struck for the first time, bowling Colin
Munro for 26 off 16 balls, reports BSS.
Imran Tahir, who had set a world record for the oldest
player to claim a five-wicket haul at the age of 47 in the previous match,
dismissed Alex Hales for 22.
Justin Greaves top-scored for Trinbago with 35 off 37
balls, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to offer much resistance.
Miraz then bowled Nicholas Pooran first ball before
dismissing Gudakesh Motie and Sunil Narine to finish with four wickets for 23
runs from his four overs. Shamar Joseph claimed two wickets as Trinbago were
restricted to 126-8 in 20 overs.
Guyana lost openers Mavendra Dindyal and Glenn Phillips
for 36, but Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope steadied the innings and guided the
hosts towards victory.
Hetmyer scored 42 off 35 balls, while Hope contributed 28
off 19 balls. Guyana reached 127-4 in 18.4 overs to secure their sixth-wicket
victory.
Miraz, who came in late in the innings, scored just two
runs off 14 balls, but his outstanding bowling performance had already laid the
foundation for Guyana’s comfortable win.
The victory kept Guyana Amazon Warriors at the top of the points table with 16 points from nine matches. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are second with 13 points from 10 matches.
