Prime Minister’s Defense Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, PSC, G paid a courtesy call on Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Abdullah Zafer bin Abiyah. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere at the Office of the Hon’ble Defense Advisor at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday (02 September 2026), a press release said.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the historical brotherly relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, mutual cooperation in the defense sector and various aspects of bilateral interests. The meeting focused on further strengthening the exchange of higher training programs and courses between the National Defense College (NDC), Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Bangladesh and the top military academies of Saudi Arabia to enhance the professional capabilities and excellence of the officers of the armed forces of both countries.
In addition, both sides expressed their strong commitment to sharing joint experience and technical capabilities of the two countries in disaster management to deal with natural disasters and urgent humanitarian crises. At the same time, they expressed their hope to take the existing strategic and military partnership to new heights through regular exchange of high-level delegations of the armed forces of the two countries.
The Saudi Arabian Ambassador highly appreciated the professionalism and overall capabilities of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The Defense Advisor thanked the Ambassador for the positive progress in the friendly relations between the two countries in the past years and expressed his hope that this relationship will become more intensive and stronger in the coming days.
