Two foreign firearms, magazines and a large quantity of fresh ammunition have been recovered in a special operation by the Coast Guard in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. On Wednesday (August 19) afternoon, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the matter.
The Coast Guard said that based on secret information, they came to know that a dishonest gang from Myanmar would try to hand over firearms to a terrorist group in a Rohingya camp inside Bangladesh through the Naf River on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
Based on this information, the Bangladesh Coast Guard's BCG Station Teknaf conducted a special operation in the Naf River under Teknaf Police Station from 1 am to 8 am on Wednesday.
During the operation, Coast Guard members signaled a suspicious wooden boat to stop. However, the boat quickly entered the Nightangpara Paraban, ignoring the signal. Later, the gang members abandoned the boat and fled.
Later, a search of the boat revealed a foreign SVD Dragunov rifle (with magazine), a foreign 9mm pistol (with magazine), 229 rounds of live rifle ammunition, 2 rounds of live and 1 round of empty pistol ammunition, and 2 MA-1 rifle magazines, which were ingeniously hidden inside the net.
The Coast Guard said that intelligence surveillance and patrol activities have been further strengthened to arrest those involved in the shipment of weapons and ammunition.
The process of taking further legal action regarding the recovered firearms, ammunition, and the seized boat is under process.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said that such operations of the Coast Guard will continue in the future to maintain the law and order situation in the country and prevent the activities of terrorist groups in the border areas.
