As a humanitarian initiative for the rehabilitation of flood-affected and homeless people in Chittagong, the Forum of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (FDEB) has completed a corrugated iron distribution program in Lohagara, Chittagong. In a brief gathering before the corrugated iron distribution, FDEB Central General Secretary Engineer Joynul Abedin said that the extensive damage caused to the lives of the people of Chittagong in the recent terrible floods is very tragic. The houses built with the savings of many people's lives have been destroyed by the mountain slopes and tidal waters. It is a human and moral responsibility to stand by the people affected by this disaster.
He said that an engineer not only builds infrastructure, but is also an artisan in building society. Therefore, it is part of FDEB's social responsibility to come forward to rehabilitate people when their houses are destroyed. Today's corrugated iron distribution program is a small attempt at that responsibility.
He also said that this assistance may not be able to compensate for all the losses of the affected people, but it will provide inspiration to get back on their feet. In addition, FDEB engineers are also ready to provide technical advice on building sustainable and disaster-resistant houses if needed, so that future natural disasters can reduce human losses.
Engineer Zainul Abedin expressed his sincere gratitude to all FDEB members, well-wishers and donors who supported this program to make it a success. He said that the people of Chittagong have always shown determination and courage in dealing with disasters. With the combined efforts of all, the affected families will return to normal life. He assured that FDEB will be by the side of the people in any disaster in the future.
